You’ve been dieting faithfully. You go to gym five to six times a week, but still those love handles won’t go away. Does this sound like you? Well, it was definitely me! I’ve lost 40 pounds since last December – Yay!!!! But, there were still certain areas that were slow to respond to my counting calories and Sweatin’ to the Oldies on the treadmill. Thoughts of tummy tucks and liposuction danced in my head. I had even started to research the procedures and prices in the metro Detroit area. Then by chance or should I say pre-destination, I found a product that is changing my body as well as my finances.

The Ultimate Body Applicator by It Works! is a little miracle contained in a small body wrap. Infused with botanical ingredients, the Ultimate Body Applicator has taken 11.3 inches off my stomach since May 24, 2010. I know…it sounds unbelievable…but believe it! The wrap, featured in the 2009 Emmy and Oscar celebrity gift bags has been a little known secret. But now, folks like you and me can truly lose inches overnight. As a matter of fact, results are seen in as little as 45 minutes!

The Ultimate Body Applicator detoxifies, tightens, tones, and firms where it is applied to the skin. This is NOT water loss, but actual inch loss with results lasting anywhere from 2 to 6 months. Men and women are using it on their thighs, arms, buttocks and even attacking the dreaded “back fat” by placing the wrap on areas on the back.

Ironically, prior to finding It Works! and the Ultimate Body Applicator, I had told a friend that I did not want to be involved in any kind of MLM business. She was trying to get me involved with a product that once you finally get in it, it will squeeze the body down 2-3 sizes. I had been there with other MLM’s, done that and didn’t want to do it again. Or so I thought, when just two weeks later, I wrapped by stomach for the first time and lost an incredible 2.5 inches in 45 minutes! I was sold and immediately I wanted to know more about marketing this phenomenal product. I found that the It Works! opportunity truly is a ground floor opportunity. There are so many areas around the country, including Detroit that have not even heard of the product. To me this spells money. I am totally thrilled at this prospect and even more thrilled when I see people finally get the results they were promised.

The company is called It Works! because their products actually work. If this sounds intriguing to you, find out more information about the It Works!

Have you noticed that the older you get, the harder it is to make friends. Oh, you have lots of acquaintances that weave in and out of your life. But chances are, the friends you’ve had since you were a kid or a teenager, are the ones you call your friends today.

My best friend is Lynette. I have known her since we were young and hot and you couldn’t tell us a thing! I spent the day with her recently and we reminisced about some of the crazy things we used to do. We are both a lot calmer (I guess that’s cause we’re older) these days, but we still get into some mischief every now and then.

Over the years Lynette has lived in different cities other than Detroit. At times, we may have only seen each other once or twice a year. Sometimes, not even that. She is the type of friend that you don’t have to hold her hand and babysit. You know how some friends have a fit if you don’t call them everyday. But Lynette is not like that and neither am I. Actually I prefer that we don’t talk everyday and she understands this. When we do talk, it’s like it was yesterday and we just pick up right where we left off.

Another reason Lynette and I have been friends for almost 30 years, is that we genuinely like each other. You know how you hear “so-called girlfriends” talk about each other behind their backs and refer to their “friend” as that bitch under their breath. Not me and Lynette. We have never infringed upon each other in any way. Our criticisms are few and we just accept each other as we are. Friendship with Lynette is easy because she is easygoing and on the whole, so am I. She is like the sister I never had. And I have a sister, but we are not that close due to her crazy husband. But that’s another story.

Bottom line is I love Lynette and our friendship! Have you told your best friend how much they mean to you. If not, do it today. Their friendship is precious and can last forever!

I’m one who believes that nothing happens by accident. This became even more apparent when I happened upon a product called the Ultimate Body Applicator by It Works! This herbal based wrap has changed my body and is changing my life.

I started on a weight-loss journey in December 2009. As of today, I have lost 39.5 pounds. But even in my weight loss, I have these areas of my body that I love because it’s me, but I certainly don’t like them. The main one being my stomach. Pulled and stretched over the years from multiple pregnancies, my stomach needed some help…bad. Visions of tummy tucks and lipo suction had begun to dance in my head.

In late May a friend sent me a link to a blog he had written. Below his blog was a banner showcasing the Ultimate Body Applicator. It said I could have amazing results in as little as 45 minutes. Hmmm, intriguing I thought as I clicked it and then put my contact information it. A few days later, a young lady named Melanie contacted me. From our conversation, I decided to order the wrap. I was hoping upon hope that I was going to have these “amazing results”. For the next few days, I waited anxiously for my package to arrive. I couldn’t wait to try it.

Well, on May 24th it finally came! I tore open the box, quickly read the directions and proceeded to wrap my stomach as directed. As I went about my day, running errands and doing chores, I kept having to pull up my pants. They were falling down below my waist. I’m thinking, boy something’s happening here. Well, went I got home, I took the wrap off and measured myself. And I measured myself again, and then one more time. I couldn’t believe my eyes…I had lost 2.5 inches in 3 hours!!! From that point on I was totally sold. I have since used the Ultimate Body Applicator three more times and have lost a total of 11.5 inches from my middle.

I’m looking good and I’m feeling good. The weight loss has done wonders for me, but losing some of my stomach has done even better. I see why the company is called It Works….because it does!

Janet Jackson says that she is in control. So I started to ask myself – “Am I in control?” Far too many times I have left other things control me and what I ate – my job, my emotions, my family, Everything and everybody but me. I really started thinking about this control issue after I took a small quiz on Sparkpeople.com as to what type of eater I am. I don’t remember the exact wording, but it was basically that I’m the type of eater who likes a lot of food and will keep eating, even when full. Damn, that hurt – I sounded like a pig. But alas, there are things I can do to put me in control and on the road to continued weight loss.

First thing I need to do is learn portion size – supersizing french fries is out. Matter of fact french fries are out for now – period. Secondly I need to use smaller plates. Sometimes we have to play little mind games to psyche ourselves out and stay in control. Lastly, but certainly not the least, is to stop eating when I’m full. You know I came up in the time when your mom told you to eat everything on your plate ’cause there were starving kids in Africa. So that mindset is still with me today. But today is the day that I take back my control. These three weight-loss strategies start today. I am the one who has control. I got my own mind, wanna make my own decisions. Ooh baby, now that I’m all grown up I’m in control!!

I have come down with The Gout. That’s what they called it when I was a kid. I remember hearing people say, “Grandma got the gout”. Even then I knew it was such a bad mamma jamma that it had its own title – THE GOUT.

As a kid I never knew what it was, but I knew it sounded way serious. Well now that I’m fifty and holding I sure as hell know what The Gout is and it is definitely a worthy opponent. As a matter of fact, right now it is kicking my butt.

Two years ago I woke up in the middle of the night with a deep persistent, throbbing pain in my big toe on the right foot. It hurt so bad that I couldn’t even stand to touch it. After a couple days of being in excruciating pain, hobbling around on one foot and hoping it would go away, I finally took myself to the doctor. She told me that she suspected that I had gout. I’m thinking, I can’t have gout, that’s what old people get”. She went on to explain about uric acid levels and that mine were quite high, but at this time I’m still a little confused as to what the hell gout really is. After doing some Internet research, I found out that gout is actually a form of arthritis. Hell just what I need – arthritis – another sign of my seemingly rapid descent into senior citizenship.

Now this lastest attack has lasted over five days. I can’t walk, I can’t sleep, and I am barely getting around. I’ve been taking all the prescribed medication – colchicine and indomethacine, but they are not helping. Now it’s time to try some natural remedies to see if they can help. I’ve been hearing that organic apple cider vinegar relieves the pain and helps in stopping recurrent attacks. At this point they certainly can’t hurt. The Gout may be winning this battle, but I’ll be damned if it wins the war.

Since the death of Michael Jackson (I was a big fan), I’ve been thinking about my legacy. What will I leave to the world when I die. For Michael, it will be his legacy as the “King of Pop”. He will live on through his music.

I, on the other hand have no Thriller or Billie Jean to exemplify my genius. No one will ever no my name except for my family, and they often forget that except for when they want something. So what will I leave to the world once I’m gone. For me I hope that it will be the kindness and love that I have shown other people. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no Mother Theresa, but I try to be just a little friendlier, a little kinder to people I meet throughout my life. It takes so little to smile or just say hello. If someone feels just a little better because of a small act of kindness, the world is just a little bit better.

I believe that kindness and love live on in the people we have touched. It’s sort of like the ”pay it forword” concept. One act of kindness begets another act of kindness. I may not die famous and my name on everyone’s lips, but I know that I have touched other people in a meaningful way and hopefully you as well. So here’s to kindness and love – may they live on forever.

Bust them in the head until the white meat shows. Those were the funny words of comedian Bernie Mac talking about what parents should do to kids. He must have had my kid in mine when he said that. As the parent of a 16 year old, I think of his humorous advice often and bust out laughing. Sometimes to keep from screaming, but definitely laughing. Now that I am a 50+ parent, I find that I am at loss of words when dealing with my kid. Well, not really at a loss of words, more like a loss of polite words. Most times she just makes me want to scream. Or as Marvin Gaye said, she “make me want to holler and throw up both my hands”. I remember when she was just 2 or 3 years old, my mother looked at her and said, “That’s the one. The other two (My oldest daughter and son) did not give you any problems, but this one is going to be the one” . Boy did my mother ever tell the truth or now that I think about it, she might have jinxed me as well. This kid definitely is keeping me on my toes. Problem is my toes at 50+ are not what they used to be. Over the last year or so, I seem to be really feeling my age. You know I keep hearing that 50 is supposed to be the new 40 – Yeah right. Tell my bad knee and my poor eye sight that. Anyway, I haven’t busted my kid in the head yet, probably because I can’t reach that high anymore.

I LOVE potato chips and anyone who really knows me, knows I love potato chips too! But lately they don’t love me. They are testament to my every burgeoning waistline. I’ve finally come to realize that at 50+, I can’t continue to eat like I did in my teens, 20′s, 30′s or even my 40′s .

As early as I can remember, I’ve had a love affair with the sweet/salty syndrome. You know, eat something salty and then eat something sweet or vice versa. The other day I was talking to a girlfriend and I suddenly remembered that I always ate potato chips and then a candy bar or cupcake. I told her that when I was a little girl and my mother or father gave me 25 cents, I would go to the corner store and buy a bag of Lays potato chips and a candy bar – more often than not it would be a Mr. Goodbar, or an Old Henry and sometimes a Payday. You know, back in the day 25 cents bought a lot. Anyway, it seems I even liked the sweet and the salt in my candy bar.

But now that I’ve gotten older some of my bad eating habits still persist and that ain’t necessarily good for me. Don’t get me wrong, I cook quite a bit from all of the food groups; going to the fruit market once a week to stock up on fresh fruits and vegtables. I love the Food Network – trying out a lot of the dishes. I really like the Barefoot Contessa, Everyday Italian, Paula Deen, etc, but I still have a thing for junk food – mainly potato chips. My favorite ones are Lays. When they came up with the “Betcha Can’t Eat Just One” slogan, they must have knew me by name. I absolutely love them! I keep telling myself that I need to grow up and eat like an adult, but damn, a day without a potato chips is like a day without sunshine! I don’t even take the bet, cause I can’t eat just one and don’t want to.

The other day I was listening to a popular local radio show that featured an “expert” gynecologist talking about menopause. What struck me about her was that she seemed to spouting the same medical techno babble that you would expect from an uninformed man. Women were calling in describing the different symptoms they were experiencing. This so-called expert was shooting them down left and right. One of the symptoms were those dreaded “hot flashes”. You know, those “private summers” or “power surges” that for some seemed to be emanating from their legs up. This “expert” said it was “physiologically impossible”. I really hate it when a doctor or anyone else for that matter just about calls you crazy when you are trying to describe what your body is experiencing. There are a few things that can trigger a hot flash. For me, if I get really ticked off about something, it can trigger one. So you can imagine by listening to this doctor I was literally “fuming”. Also I discovered that wine is a trigger. Other women reported that “sweets” such as chocolate triggered a hot flash. Wow, bummer!

Anyway, the last caller in the segment asked if there was something that could be done about the weight she was gaining around the middle. This so-called expert told her to watch what she was putting in her mouth – that there were good carbs and bad carbs. The caller sounded bewildered and slightly frustrated. This doctor was a complete idiot!! By this time I was totally infuriated!!! This doctor obviously knew nothing about menopause other than what she had read in some outdated medical book.

If you are Going Thru the Change – Fear Not! You can get to the light at the end of the tunnel. First, you have got to research and read for yourself. Most doctors know very little about menopause. Much of their time was spent learning about your child-bearing years and they know very little about the last half of a woman’s life. In my opinion, a caring doctor would never discount what symptoms a patient is describing. If you say your legs are hot, than by golly you got hot legs! (Remember Rod Stewart’s song “Hot Leg”, anyway I digress.) Secondly, most women experience weight gain around their middles. During menopause estrogen levels decrease significantly. The fat cells in the abdomen most resemble estrogen cells, thus the reason for the ever-increasing middle. It has very little to do with good carbs, bad carbs. If only it was that simple. Thirdly, check out the miracle of adding soy to your diet. Lots of stuff on the Internet about – check it out. I’m going thru the menopause tunnel, but I do see the light!
